Professionalism
In my portfolio under professionalism I plan to maintain the nursing standards that were taught to me in the beginning of my nursing education. The BSN program has allowed me to reinforce those standards I learned early on and better understand the significance behind them. I will demonstrate the professionalism at the hospital and extend it into the public environment through non-profits organizations and committees.
Early in the RN to BSN program in Nursing 324 we were asked to look at current nursing practice and evaluate how we can make improvements. One of the projects that demonstrates met outcomes in professionalism had to do with a Critical Analysis of Group Process. In this paper my role was as an active contributor in the group and demonstrated how I handled complex issues with group members while accomplishing a common goal. I made sure my work was done and giving input into fellow group members’ work allowed me to contribute an equal share in our goal of accomplishing a good grade. Goals serve as a guide to reach my full professional potential. A professional nurse must be a role model for peers and the community. Nursing as a profession can have a huge impact in the communities in which they live and the facilities in which we work in.
The last paper on Analyzing a Manager helped me understand that in professionalism, nurses are ethically and legally accountable for the standards of practice and the actions delegated to others. Nurses are also guided by a philosophy of self determination, independence and choice of decision making. I can look back now and say that the program has broadened my outlook on nursing and helped me create a better foundation with the continued education and development of writing skills so that I may communicate more effectively. I have developed the confidence to take nursing to the next level and be an educator to my peers and not always the student.
