Generalist Nursing Practice
Throughout my portfolio under my nursing practice I have kept an open mind and will continue to apply it in my practice while getting my BSN and in the future. I am mindful to address the needs of the whole person in my practice and not to judge. I feel that I have met the Ferris State University outcomes of Generalist nursing practice by understanding how to “Organize the interdisciplinary health care needs of diverse populations across the lifespan toward achieving the goal of healthy individuals, families, groups, and communities (Ferris State University, 2013, p. 1)”. The outcome is evidenced in the authors’ works showing the importance to health promotion and in nursing leadership positions.
The first scholarly work presented is a Windshield Survey which outlines the necessity of community evaluation to create health promotion activities based on community deficits and assets. Nurses play a crucial role in health promotion. In order to best fill that role we must be adept at assessing community needs and health risks in order to focus specific interventions with measurable goals.
Another project was my service learning project that focused on a community outreach program in Kalkaska County where I reside in. I worked with the community outreach nurse to provide a health service to some of the children and seniors in the area. By following the outcome path of the BSN program I feel I was able to improve health care to the people within the community I live in while demonstrating professionalism that is congruent with the inherent values, ethics and behaviors of the discipline of nursing(FSU,2011).
